BALER, AURORA: VOICE OF AURORANS

BALER, AURORA

Peace not War

Peace not War

AN OPEN LETTER FROM KA ELAY

AN OPEN LETTER FROM A FORMER REBEL

An open letter from a former rebel.
Our Freedom is in Jeopardy
The fact that the Communist Party of the Philippines-New Peoples’ Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) is continuously committing grave coercion against the people, particularly the politicians, not only in areas where they have their stronghold but also on a nationwide scale, is already very unsettling. How much more would be the threat it would cause in safeguarding clean, honest and credible elections—our freedom, our human rights?
The so called ‘Permit-to-Campaign’ and ‘Permit-to-Win’ scheme of the CPP-NPA-NDF go beyond being a money-making scheme for the commies and their armed group. This tarnishes the integrity of the whole electoral process which is a major expression of democracy in our beloved country. These self-righteous commies always brags about upholding human rights especially in the socio-political sphere but why, for heaven’s sake, would they prevent someone who can’t afford their price, for PTC and PTW, to exercise his rights to campaign and his rights to govern the people in all areas of his concern? Why would they sell the votes of their members if they are sincere in protecting the rights to suffrage of every individual? Why would they deprive our fellow Filipino people, especially in the country side, to discern each and every candidate if they threaten the lives of those candidates who bravely refuse to pay them?
In contrast with the principles of the Comprehensive Agreement on Respect for Human Rights and International Humanitarian Law or CAHRIHL in which both parties - the Government of the Republic of the Philippines (GRP) and the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP) - signed in 1998, the CPP-NPA’s pursuit of the PTC and PTW is basically a denial of the Filipinos’ rights to freedom of expression, freedom of conscience, political beliefs and practices. The continuance of this unjust practice of theirs is irrevocably anti-poor for it deprives those people who are economically challenged but are eager to be in the public service to pursue their passion. Thus, this would affect and bastardize the people’s right to suffrage because it would limit those individuals who can campaign freely in the CPP-NPA-NDF-controlled areas. And needless to say, the PTC and PTW certainly promote corruption.
These commies will never be satisfied with this PTC and PTW scheme. They even oblige candidates (especially in the local level) to forge alliances with them and adapt policies that will favour their existence. Now, aren’t they the ones who should be called corrupt and dictators? It’s a ‘either-you’re-dead-or-you’ll-be-friendly-with-us’ tactic that puts pressure on their offer with certain candidates. It takes ones to know one.
So, I am calling on to my fellow Filipinos whose love for the country remains in his heart, in his every word, and in his every way to renounce these violations of our human rights being committed by the Communist Party of the Philippines and their terrorist armed group - NPA. Now is the time to bring change in the country and it is upon the shoulders of every Filipino to carry out this task of safeguarding the upcoming May 2010 elections. It is ‘we’ not some pretentious communists that should decide on the future of our nation. And to my former comrades who are still caught by the communist movement’s web of deceptions and lies, it is never too late to start life anew. I hope majority of you would wake up from your deep slumber that you can bring forth progress in this nation through a bloody revolution—I did.

The Positive Effects of ASEZA/APEZA

ASEZA or APEZA earned criticisms from different sectors of the society in Aurora but behind those criticism a lot people are in favor of the project considering that this will have a great impact to the people of Aurora in terms of livelihood and infrastructure development. One of visible result of this development is the construction of bridges from Dipaculao to Casiguran and the road concreting which is on-going. It is targeted that road concreting and construction of bridges will be finish next year. Residence of Casiguran, particularly those who are affected by the project will be given housing project by the NHA. A lot of the residence especially in Brgy Estevez are not holding title of their lot where their houses are buil, through the ASEZA and NHA they will be given housing that they will be able to call as their own. Of course like SUBIC in Zambales, a lot more project will come into reality when it will be fully implemented. A school conducive for learning, health facilities will be improve, water and electricity will also given attention because industries that will be built there will needs those services and aside from the fact that its part of the program. Those are just few benefits that ASEZA will bring in the people of Aurora. Aside from those infrastructure project and services, people of Aurora will also be given a the priority for employment in businesses that will be establish in the economic zone...

Christians for National Liberation
Gains strength, advances

Revolutionaries in the church sector successfully held the seventh congress of Christians for National Liberation (CNL) this November. CNL is a national organization of church people from various Christian sects and denominations. It represents the patriotic and revolutionary strata in the church sector.

The congress elected Fr. Servando Popolus, a Catholic priest, as the new chairperson.

In almost three decades characterized by various twists and turns in the revolutionary struggle, CNL persevered and took a steadfast stand to advance the national-democratic revolution. It continues to play an oustanding and highly respected role as one of the allied organizations within the National Democratic Front (NDF). It has proven the important and effective role of revolutionary Christians in the national united front, in mobilizing the broad masses and in the general advance of the revolution.

In the first years of the revolutionary movement, CNL contributed greatly in defending and preserving the revolution's ranks by securing and providing refuge to cadres being pursued by the dictatorship and by providing a wide network of facilities for the use of revolutionary forces. With the eruption of the first mass actions against the dictatorship, CNL linked arms with workers and other oppressed sectors in shattering fascist terror both before the public and in the reactionary media.

More than this, CNL contributed meaningfully to strengthening the armed movement in the countryside by providing material support and deploying members to the New People's Army (NPA). The Party recognizes its immense contribution to the initial establishment of guerrilla fronts nationwide.

In the following years, CNL implemented various tasks to strengthen and expand the revolution's ranks. This past decade, CNL members successfully struggled against the opportunist renegades and contributed to the overall victory of the Second Great Rectification Movement.

CNL was founded in 1972 in recognition of the influence of the Christian religion in Philippine society and the huge potential in organizing and mobilizing church people for national liberation and democracy in accordance with their belief. Its establishment was an organized response by church people to the immediate challenge of fighting the poverty and oppression afflicting the people.

At present, the expansion and consolidation of their organization as part of the overall revolutionary movement pose a big challenge to CNL. Most of the sector's members belong to the petty bourgeoisie, and thus may be aroused, organized and mobilized according to their national and democratic interests. In recognition of their class character, it is necessary for them to link firmly their movement with the struggle of the basic masses by continuously integrating with and participating in the struggle of workers, peasants and other oppressed and exploited sectors.

More than this, CNL members must participate in the armed struggle as the principal and decisive form of revolution. Their potential contribution to opening, recovering and consolidating guerrilla fronts as NPA Red fighters remains great.
